Plant Area Maintenance
The plant area is the heart of the practice, and
so this is the best place to start for a shutdown.
In the plant area, there is the compressor and the suction motor.
Compressor
When not in use for an extended period of time, we recommend draining the air out of the compressor.
To drain out the air, please follow our recommendations depending on the type you
have installed:
Older Industrial Compressor (i.e. Clisby or ProAir):
Drain out the unit using the exhaust hose, which will also ensure the tank is dry during the shutdown.
Dental Compressor (i.e. Cattani or Durr): First, empty the water collection bottle and/or tray and then, drain the air by turning the compressor off and running a high speed inside the surgery until the air runs out.

Suction Motor
To keep the suction motor healthy, we recommend the following:
Dry Suction Motor: Run the suction in the practice for 10 to 15 minutes without sucking anything (air only). This will make sure that no water is in the motor, which if left, can cause corrosion. If you have staff working during shutdown, instruct them to start the suction and suck only air at least once a week to ensure the motor runs freely.
Wet Suction (or semi-wet) motor: Clean the yellow filter. Don’t forgot to replace it once you resume work.
